CONTRACT TITLE: Diversity and Inclusion Outreach Worker
LOCATION: North West BC
START DATE: As soon as possible
Reporting to the Senior Diversity & Inclusion Outreach Worker on a six-month term contract, you will support individuals and First Nations by developing and applying outreach and research strategies to accommodate underrepresented populations working on Liquified Natural Gas projects. You will primarily focus on promoting Indigenous women in the work force but may involve persons experiencing challenges based on gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and education.
Working with a team of other outreach workers, you will also liaise with First Nations impacted by LNG projects to create an outreach plan addressing issues such as environment, employment and training and procurement in order to develop relationships and identify challenges and opportunities for maximum benefits to the communities.
PURPOSE OF ENGAGEMENT
The First Nations LNG Alliance is a self-established collective of First Nations who are actively engaged in, and have a deep understanding of, the LNG sector in British Columbia. The primary focus of the Alliance is to facilitate a balance between protecting the environment and increasing sustainable LNG sector economic opportunities for First Nation communities and the regions in which they are situated. The Alliance provides a proactive, informed First Nations’ perspective to members, governments, industry, the international community, and the public regarding growth of the LNG industry and realization of economic and investment opportunities for First Nations peoples. Engagement and outreach with First Nations impacted by LNG projects is intended to identify challenges and opportunities for maximizing benefits to the communities and their members, including members who may be in underrepresented population groups.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working with government, industry and Indigenous communities
- Knowledge of the diversity of the various nations and excellent relationship building skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to draft reports, media releases, presentations, and other related documents
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- In accordance with s.42 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to qualified Indigenous applicants
WAGE RANGE: This is a six-month independent contract
