Alliance presentation a hit

Our First Nations LNG Alliance drew strong attendance at a sidebar presentation and discussion during the big B.C. Natural Resources Forum event in Prince George.

Among the points we made:

  • Liquefied natural gas has created jobs and opportunities for First Nations and communities across B.C.
  • LNG will help provide lower-emission energy to Asia as an alternative to thermal coal for generating electricity.
  • When the first LNG is exported from LNG Canada at Kitimat this year it will be the lowest-emission LNG in the world.
  • Each cargo represents benefits for First Nations and revenues supporting health care, education, and other core services across British Columbia.
  • The Haisla Nation’s Cedar LNG project will be the first Indigenous majority-owned LNG project in the world.
  • And the Nisga’a Nation is advancing the Ksi Lisims LNG project with its partners, and recently has taken an ownership interest in the PRGT pipeline.
  • Natural gas provides us with an opportunity where First Nations can own our future. There is a global need for Canadian LNG. And there is no Canadian LNG unless it’s Indigenous LNG. Indigenous people will be at the heart of it.
  • Together, we can strengthen our communities by responsibly developing our natural-gas resource. It all means First Nations across BC benefitting from employment and procurement opportunities, joint ventures, and other economic opportunities.
  • We should all be proud of our accomplishments when the HaiSea Marine tugs lead the first LNG carrier out to the Pacific, because LNG Canada was the result of a lot of hard work from First Nations, communities, the companies, the workers, two different provincial governments, and the federal government. It shows that in Canada, we can do it, when we work together and do it the right way.
